St. Augustine Beach & Tennis Club Condos: Sewer Sinkhole (See Pictures Below)
Project Overview:
The client engaged D.Armstrong Contracting to address a sinkhole forming in a travel lane, which was caused by a compromised storm drain pipe. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the existing asbestos concrete pipe's grouted joints were deteriorating.
Scope of Work:
The project involved replacing the damaged storm line with high-density polyethylene pipe and relocating the water line to accommodate the new storm line. This required the demolition and replacement of sections of sidewalk, curb, and asphalt. To ensure pedestrian accessibility, a temporary ADA ramp was installed.
Challenges:
Numerous challenges were encountered during the project, including inclement weather events such as Hurricane Ian on 9/28/22, higher than average tides and water-tables, and poor soil conditions. Constant de-watering was necessary to manage the water levels.
Additional Work:
In addition to the primary repairs, asphalt restoration, pavement markings, ADA markings, signage restoration, and wheel stops were completed. Grading work behind the curbs and thorough cleanup, including debris removal and haulage, were also undertaken to ensure the site's restoration.
